ClaHiReS (Classical High Resolution Spectrograph)

The target of this project is the Construction
and Development of a High Resolution Spectrograph for astronomical Use.
The requirements for the Spectrograph Design were:
- High Resolution (>15000, because my main interests lie in
the line-structure of spectrum-variable Stars like Be-Stars, P-Cygni
Stars or alpha-Canis-Majoris Stars)
- Weight < 1kg
- Groundplane smaller than a Din-A4 paper
The Spectrograph is a classical slit-spectrograph, the Optical Datas are listed below:
- Focal Distance of the Collimator: 150mm (Lense by Thorlabs, Diameter 1 inch)
- Focal Distance of the Camera: 200mm
- Slitwidth: 25Ám (by Lenox Laser)
- Total Angular of 30 degrees
- Resolution: ca. 18300 at H-alpha (equivalent to 0.36 Angstrom)
All optical Components of the Spectrograph are mounted on a
Groundplane made out of Multiplex (Wood). Other components are made out
of Aluminium. The slit is mounted in a slit-observation-unit,(SOU)
which is used to guide the star. Below some Construction-Plans of the
SOU are listed:
The Main construction plan is in Din-A3 format, i wasn't able to scan it till now.

The lines in direction of dispersion are caused by dust on the slit
Sun spectrum reduced with vspec. On the x-axis: Angstrom, on the y-axis: Counts.
The resolution of the spectrograph at H-alpha is approx. 14700
(measured via the FWHM of a neon-line next to H-alpha). This could be
improved by a better adjustment of the spectrograph.
There are still problems with the acquisition of star spectra. In my
opinion a possible reason for this issue, could be a problem with the
slit observation unit. Therefore a new, improved slit-oberservation-unit (SOU) is required.
